Membership
NYON works to support, promote and develop the capacity of its members to deliver high quality services to young people. In practice, this means that NYON will provide the following services:
Member Services
Information
The NYON e-bulletin will provide a source of high quality, timely information on issues affecting the voluntary youth sector; this will be complemented by the development of the NYON website. We will make sense of the large volumes of information on new initiatives, etc and select the information we think is relevant to our members.
Advice
If there is something you need to know relating to work with young people, whether it is about funding, training, practice or policy (or other), contact NYON and, if we can’t answer the question ourselves, we will point you in the right direction of someone who can.
Networking Opportunities
Whether you’re working on a new project and need some support from someone who has done something similar before, or you want to set up a group to share ideas and best practice on a particular aspect of work with young people, NYON is committed to developing peer support networks for the sector and we will help you make new contacts.
Training
If you are trying to find a particular piece of training, contact us and we will do our best to put you in touch with a provider. At a strategic level, NYON will seek to work in partnership with other statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure that organisations across the voluntary youth sector can access the high quality training and support that they require.
Involvement and Accountability
NYON will keep members informed of what is happening and work to ensure that the sector is properly involved and consulted. NYON seeks to be a ‘gateway’ for information, consultation and involvement between the voluntary youth sector in Nottinghamshire and statutory agencies; there is already regular contact at a strategic level with the County Council, City Council, Connexions and Government Office East Midlands. NYON will also work to ensure appropriate voluntary youth sector involvement in initiatives involving the wider sector, such as local strategic partnerships and community networks.
Involving Young People
The over-riding purpose of NYON is to improve provision for young people. We have recently published a report on Youth Participation and how to actively engage young people in the decision making process. We will work to continue developing this area.
