What we Do

NYON is a specialist infrastructure organisation working to support, promote and develop voluntary organisations / community groups who work with young people aged between 5 and 25 in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Vision

To ensure the development of a vibrant, sound, inclusive and diverse voluntary youth and community sector network which supports organisation which aims to involve, empower and meet the needs of young people in the County of Nottinghamshire and the City of Nottingham.

Strategic Aims

1. To build and sustain an inclusive and diverse network of voluntary youth and community organisations and groups, from which an active membership is developed.
2. To support and promote the needs, interests, aspirations and achievements of youth-based organisations and groups which work with young people.
3. To develop, support and promote best practice within NYON and among its members.
4. To provide services which will enable member groups to build the capacity of their organisations:

• Information – to provide the voluntary youth sector in Nottinghamshire with information on issues affecting the sector, through a comprehensive network of contacts at local, regional and national level.
• Advocacy – to develop the mechanisms by which a diverse range of voluntary youth organisations in Nottinghamshire can, at an early stage, participate in policy formulation and implementation at all levels and through which the work of the sector can be promoted.
• Strategic co-ordination of new initiatives – to become a key player in co-ordinating the implementation of new initiatives which impact on the voluntary youth sector at a sub-regional level.
• External relationships with key organisations – to develop strong relationships with appropriate organisations at a local, regional and national level and encourage networks and inter-agency partnerships.
• Training – to work with key agencies to build the capacity of the voluntary sector and to promote best practice through the provision of appropriate, high quality training and support.
• Youth Involvement – to ensure that NYON is alert to the concerns and view of young people and reflects these in its work.
• Organisational Planning – to build a sustainable organisation through the development of an active, broad-based membership and best management practice.
